Wild Beach is a natural, undeveloped ocean cove where the jungle meets the Pacific — not a beach club. Natural shade comes from palm and almond trees rather than umbrellas, which keeps the atmosphere quiet and genuinely wild. Waves are direct Pacific ocean waves — more powerful than the protected coves inside Manuel Antonio National Park. The setting rewards guests who want real nature: the sound of the ocean, jungle birds, and the feeling of having a stretch of Pacific coastline to themselves.

Wild Beach is accessible directly from the hotel on foot via an on-site trail. The path is steep in sections — wear closed-toe shoes or sturdy sandals and take your time on the descent. The walk takes approximately 15 minutes. If you prefer a more comfortable arrival, the Makanda team can take you by golf cart — just let reception know when you plan to go. The golf cart service is available during hotel operating hours. Either way, reception will advise you on current beach conditions, wave activity and the best time of day for your visit before you head down.

Makanda provides full beach service at the wild beach for all guests. Sun loungers and beach towels are set up and ready on arrival. Beverage service is available — order drinks directly from the beach and they will be brought down to you. WiFi reaches the beach area so you can stay connected if you want to. The beach setup is included as part of your stay — no additional charge. Let reception know the evening before or the morning of your planned visit so they can have everything prepared for your arrival time.

Wild Beach faces the open Pacific and receives direct ocean swell — conditions vary significantly by season, tide and swell direction. On calm days the water is beautiful for swimming. On days with stronger swell, the shore break can be powerful and swimming is not advisable. Makanda reception monitors conditions daily and will always advise you honestly before your visit — if the beach is not suitable for swimming on a given day, they will tell you. Never swim alone at Wild Beach and always check with reception first. The beach is not patrolled by lifeguards. Snorkelling is possible on calmer days but the visibility and marine life are generally better at Biesanz Beach nearby.

Morning visits before 11am are generally the most pleasant — cooler temperatures, calmer winds and the best light for the Pacific views. The Dry Season (December through April) tends to bring calmer sea conditions overall, making swimming more consistently accessible. The Green Season (May through November) brings stronger swell on many days but also more dramatic skies and a more intense jungle atmosphere on the trail down. Sunset visits are possible and the westward-facing beach gives unobstructed Pacific sunset views — ask reception for the current sunset time and plan to arrive 30 minutes before.

Wild Beach works best as one part of a varied day rather than a full-day destination. A typical arrangement: morning wildlife walk or national park visit, late morning at Wild Beach, return to the hotel for lunch at Árbol Restaurant, then afternoon at the adults-only infinity pool. The beach is also a natural complement to a spa day at Shanti Spa — morning at the beach, afternoon treatment, sunset at the pool. Makanda reception can help coordinate timing and arrange golf cart transport so your beach visit fits seamlessly into whatever else you have planned. Just ask the evening before.
