An Adults-Only Boutique Hotel Above the Pacific
Makanda by the Sea is an adults-only boutique hotel set into a jungle hillside above the Pacific in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. There are 33 accommodations across nine suite and villa categories, and no two are alike: every one carries its own one-of-a-kind design, and every one opens onto a private balcony that faces west, toward the sunset.
The collection ranges from 807 to 1,615 sq ft. Garden and ocean-view suites make up the first tier; the villas add private pools — including two designed for honeymoons — and the two Signature homes, the Luxury Villa Private Pool and the Sky Penthouse, each hold a private infinity pool above the treeline. For adult family or friends traveling together, the Luxury Villa (Four People) sleeps four in two separate bedrooms.
The hillside itself is part of an active ecological corridor: toucans, scarlet macaws, and sloths pass through daily, and complimentary golf carts carry you between your suite, the infinity pool, Shanti Spa, and Árbol Restaurant. A secluded wild beach is accessible from the property; Manuel Antonio Beach is about a ten-minute walk.
